Barbara Rifkind

I am a graduate of Andover and Yale, an experienced educational consultant, married to a professor at NYU Stern School of Business and NYU Shanghai, and mom of a Smith student. My family and I live in New York’s West Village and spend time in Shanghai.

I apply the perspectives and knowledge I gained as an executive at Pearson Education and Oxford University Press, and as a school and college alumni interviewer, to the work of helping young people discover and pursue their educational and personal goals and distinguish themselves from other hardworking and talented college applicants.

Over my career in education, I have met with professors and students at over 400 North American college campuses – Ivy League, liberal arts, HBCUs, research universities, state schools, and women’s colleges – and schools and universities across Asia, Europe, and South America. In my executive roles, I have mentored many younger colleagues from first jobs through flourishing careers. As a literary agent representing thought leaders in science, technology, and business education and practice, I helped my clients craft their personal statements, book proposals, and drafts, and make good matches with outstanding publishers. As an independent educational consultant, I bring a powerful toolkit to the wonderful work of helping students and families achieve their college search goals.

I am a graduate of UC Irvine’s IEC certificate program. I belong to professional associations including HECA, IECA, NJACAC, and NYSACAC, and follow their principles of good practice and professional codes of ethics.
